For Mmule Setati, food has never simply been about what’s on the plate. Through her beloved platform, Feed My Tribe, she has built a community rooted in comfort, culture, and connection — one recipe at a time. But behind the beautifully curated meals is a woman whose personal journey has shaped every part of the brand.
“I’m a woman who has lived many versions of herself — a mother, a partner, a creative, a nurturer,” she shares. “Feed My Tribe was born at the intersection of all those identities.”
What began as casual moments of sharing home-cooked meals online soon evolved into something far more meaningful. Setati recalls posting dishes she prepared for her children and loved ones, never imagining the emotional connection it would spark with audiences. “People didn’t just want recipes — they wanted connection,” she explains. “That’s when I realised this wasn’t just content, it was impact.”

Her relationship with food is deeply nostalgic, anchored in meals that feel like home. Asked about her ultimate comfort dish, she immediately mentions ting ya mabele, rich stew, and split pea bone soup — meals layered with warmth, heritage, and love. “That’s the kind of food that doesn’t just fill you, it settles you,” she says.
It’s perhaps why her audience gravitates toward recipes that feel both indulgent and familiar. Signature dishes like peanut butter spinach, hearty stews, and comforting one-pan meals continue to resonate because they are approachable yet elevated — food people can recreate while still feeling special enough to proudly serve their families.

Today, the word “tribe” has grown far beyond Setati’s immediate family. What once represented her home now reflects a larger community of people who cook alongside her, reconnect with culture through food, and find comfort in shared experiences.
Now expanding into immersive pop-up dining experiences, Setati is bringing Feed My Tribe into the physical world. “It’s not just dining — it’s feeling,” she says. And much like her recipes, that feeling is rooted in authenticity, soul, and the simple power of gathering around a table.

From comforting stews to building a community rooted in culture and connection, Chef Mmule Setati is redefining what it means to feed the soul. In this Women Diaries feature, she opens up about motherhood, healing, food, and the journey behind Feed My Tribe.
She’s also stepping into a new chapter with immersive pop-up dining experiences — creating beautiful spaces where people can gather, connect, and experience storytelling through food in real life. For Mmule, it’s more than dining; it’s about creating moments that feel intentional, soulful, and deeply personal.
